I know that there is probably no relation but the first thing that popped into my mind when taking a look at this picture is a scene from Dracula (film) by Coppola when Jonathan is captured in Dracula's castle with three vampiresses.
This picture reminds me of some of the work by John Santerineross. If I see a picture in a gallery, that is- a decent one, rather than a house or the like, I look at it out of context from anything. So it wasn't until I looked through the comments that I thought of the 'dark christ' symbolism. But yes, I'd love to see a church with this as a back altar painting that the reverend solemnly speaks in front of.
